TrimBoard Problems Can Reportedly Lead to Swelling, Decay and Rotting
Last Updated on June 27, 2017
TrimBoard, a low-cost composite wood trim product, is reported to have a manufacturing defect, causing it to swell, decay and rot. Trim Board class action lawsuits have sprung up around the country as consumers have experienced that the wood trim product is not suitable for exterior use because it deteriorates prematurely. TrimBoard is manufactured by ABT Building Products Corporation and Louisiana-Pacific Corporation and is also marketed under the names ProTrim and ChoiceTrim. Those affected have alleged that the company knowingly sold this defective product around the United States and that it has failed, especially in bad-weather areas.

As a result of the swelling, decaying and rotting, the premature failure of the trim makes the material vulnerable to insect infestation and the presence of mold, fungi and mildew. These problems lead to a structural failure, as well as a decrease in the quality of outward appearance. According to a previous TrimBoard lawsuit, the manufacturer would inspect a house with TrimBoard, deny any defects, blame the installer, and offer a small settlement for the consumer. The lawsuit settled for far more than Louisiana-Pacific Corporation originally offered affected consumers.
TrimBoard includes trim, soffit, fascia, lattice, fencing, handrails, vents, risers, and stringers. TrimBoard has a paper surface that is often either smooth or has a texture similar to that of cedar. If you have experienced problems with TrimBoard, ProTrim or ChoiceTrim, you may be entitled to compensation for losses associated with fixing the defective product, including a decrease in the resale value of your home.
