Oasis Decking Failures Lead to Class Action Lawsuit
Last Updated on June 27, 2017
Due to widespread allegations that Oasis Composite Deck and Rail materials are prone to premature failure, a class action has been filed against the manufacturers, Ply Gem Holdings Inc., and Mastic Home Exteriors Inc. (formerly known as Alcoa Home Exteriors). Oasis Decking is designed to look and function like natural wood but not require the ongoing maintenance that natural wood usually requires. The lawsuit alleges that despite claims that the product will not split, cup, or warp, the composite decking is prone to do just that.
Claims from customers around the United States assert that the product is plagued by design flaws.
The product was protected by a warranty for 25 years from the original date of installation of the decking, which asserted that the “covered products will not splinter, split, rot, or suffer from structural damage.” Claims from customers around the United States assert that the product is plagued by design flaws that cause the decking to crack, cup, warp, split, mildews, and discolor shortly after installation. Instead of remedy this problem for existing customers, the manufacturer simply ceased production of the composite decking materials.
The lawsuit alleges that not only has the Oasis decking product failed to meet expectations, the warranty has also not met its obligations. According to the lawsuit, the manufacturer of Oasis limited their offer of warranty payment to their estimate of the purchase price of Oasis Decking, which is reportedly just a fraction of the cost of replacement. Furthermore, in exchange for the warranty payment, the manufacturer required the customer to sign a document releasing Mastic Home Exteriors, Inc. and its affiliates from all claims, actions or damages arising from or relating to the decking materials in question.
If you have experienced problems with Oasis Composite Deck and Rail (Oasis Decking) manufactured by Ply Gem Holdings Inc., and Mastic Home Exteriors Inc. (formerly known as Alcoa Home Exteriors), you may be entitled to compensation for losses associated with fixing or replacing the defective product, including a decrease in the resale value of your home.
