Caribbean Cruise Line Robocall Suit Dismissed
On Monday, joint dismissal was granted to a putative class action that claimed Caribbean Cruise Lines made unwanted robocalls to customers. The lawsuit alleged that the cruise line violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by calling consumers’ cell phones to advertise cruise packages. None of the parties involved provided a reason for the dismissal.
Universal City Studios Settles Wage Claims
Universal City Studios’ $1.8 million settlement was granted final approval on Monday. The lawsuit claimed that the studio failed to pay proper overtime to more than 3,500 food service and parking lot workers. Under the settlement, Universal employees who worked for the studio between August 21, 2008 and September 21, 2015 will be able to claim back part of their unpaid wages.
NYC Marathon Organizer, Runners Settle Lottery Suit
New York Road Runners Inc. (the nonprofit in charge of organizing the NYC Marathon) agreed to settle a proposed class action brought by a group of runners. The lawsuit was centered on the lottery system, in which runners would pay an entrance fee, even though they could still be denied their chance to run, used to fill some spots in the race. If the settlement is granted final approval, New York Road Runners would stop holding the lottery for three years and reimburse certain runners for their lottery fees.
Samsung, LG Employees Sue Over Wage Suppression
Samsung and LG have been accused of illegally agreeing to not recruit or directly hire each other’s employees. But, why is that a bad thing? Well, according to the lawsuit, the practice illegally reduces salary competition between the companies since neither one is worried about losing their employees to their rival. The lawsuit is looking to certify a nationwide class of LG and Samsung employees, as well as a California subclass.
