News in Brief: March 21, 2016 – Spotify and Kroger

We only have two stories to report for you, so today’s news is indeed brief.
First up, Spotify. You may have heard about the lawsuit filed against Spotify in late December that claimed it infringed on the copyrights of several independent artists. Well, Spotify agreed to a settlement on Thursday. The settlement will allow music publishers and songwriters to claim royalties from Spotify and will also make it easier for writers to be identified and paid for their work.
Then, we have Kroger. A proposed class action claiming that Kroger deceived customers by stating that its bread crumbs don’t contain any trans fat was dismissed from California federal court on Thursday. The judge found that the plaintiff’s claim that she didn’t read the bread crumbs’ label for the 15 years she was purchasing the product didn’t hold up. According to the judge, she can’t claim that she relied on the statements on the label (the ones she claimed to not have read for 15 years) to make her purchase.
