Monsanto Evades False Advertising Suit

Monsanto dodged a potential false advertising class action in California federal court on Tuesday. The suit claimed that Monsanto misled customers by lying about the effects of its weed killer, Roundup. Allegedly, the weed killer attacks the bacteria that live in human digestive systems, while the labels on the product said that the chemicals attacked a certain enzyme found in plants but not in people. This may have led some to believe that the product wouldn’t affect humans – or harm their health. The case was dismissed after a judge found that the claims were preempted by federal law.
