Lawsuit Claims Costco Prints Too Much Info on Card Receipts

Costco has been hit with a lawsuit alleging the company willfully violated privacy laws by including several digits of credit card numbers on customers’ receipts. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, businesses are not permitted to print more than five digits of a customer’s credit card number. The suit goes on to claim that for Costco to obtain the right to accept credit and debit cards, they agreed to abide by the security standards outlined by the FCRA and therefore had a responsibility to periodically review their receipts for compliance.
