Jeep Liberty Safety Recall Explained
Last Updated on October 1, 2024
Chrysler has announced that it is expanding its recall of Jeep Liberty SUVs for possible corrosion issues that could cause crashes. According to the Boston Globe, the recall previously included models from 2004 and 2005 but has now been extended to incorporate Libertys from 2006 and 2007 as well. This update brings the total number of recalled vehicles to around 347,000. Although no serious accidents have been reported thus far, the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) warned that a corrosion problem in the rear suspension lower control arm could lead to crashes. The recall affects Libertys sold in salt-belt states, as the corrosion is reportedly due to prolonged exposure to road salt.
A fracture of the rear lower control arm may result in a loss of vehicle control and may lead to a crash.
The vehicles covered by the recall were built from July 3, 2003 through June 29, 2007. Vehicles affected by the recall were sold or registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C. Owners of the Jeep Liberty SUVs will be notified and will be eligible for a free replacement of the suspension components from Chrysler.
The NHTSA released a statement saying: "Some vehicles may be equipped with rear lower control arms that can experience a rear suspension lower control arm fracture due to excessive corrosion due to application of road salts during winter weather conditions. A fracture of the rear lower control arm may result in a loss of vehicle control and may lead to a crash."
Vehicles that present an increased risk of crashing pose a significant danger to drivers, occupants, and other persons or property. If you or a loved one has experienced a rear suspension problem as a byproduct of a Jeep Liberty corrosion issue, you may be eligible to enter a lawsuit against the auto manufacturer. Contact a committed defective product attorney to see if you could possibly recover compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
