Fluidmaster Leaks in No-Burst Supply Lines Allegedly Linked to Defect
Last Updated on January 11, 2022
Despite claims of “superior engineering” and “heavy-duty” craftsmanship, Fluidmaster No-Burst braided stainless steel supply lines may be prone to leaks or bursts. Fluidmaster faced allegations in the past that its supply lines were susceptible to corrosion and bursts. In 2003, the company made the decision to redesign their No-Burst supply lines, believed to be an effort to remedy the defects. Despite this, it is alleged that thousands of these supply lines with defective materials are still being sold and installed around the country. Fluidmaster products are commonly sold at home improvement stores like Home Depot, Walmart, Lowe’s, Menards, Ace Hardware, and TrueValue.
These stainless steel supply lines have been reported to be prone to corrosion.
These stainless steel supply lines have been reported to be prone to corrosion. Despite the belief that “stainless steel” is non-corrosive, this is not entirely true, according to allegations. Fluidmaster allegedly uses a grade of stainless steel that has been proven susceptible to corrosion and fracture when in the presence of certain chemicals like chlorine or bleach. Since these chemicals are frequently ingredients in household cleaners, they are often used or stored nearby to the supply lines. In addition to the corrosion risk, Fluidmaster allegedly used an inner water-carrying tubing that is low pressure-rated, leading to an increased chance of rupture if the steel shell is compromised. These defects put homeowners at a serious risk of water damage and personal injury, especially considering Fluidmaster includes a provision in its warranty that removes the company from liability for incidental damages resulting from product failure.
Fluidmaster has deemed itself one of the most trusted and reliable plumbing supply companies in the world, with claims on their website including, “Superior engineering and top-grade materials. We keep that spirit of invention alive by always looking (and finding) new ways to make our repair parts work better and last longer.” Their No-Burst lines were advertised as “tough,” “heavy-duty,” “NSF [National Science Foundation]-approved,” “reinforced,” chlorine resistant, designed for “high flow capacity” and having “high bursting strength.” These claims, plus a 5-year warranty to replace any defective products, led customers to believe that they were purchasing the highest quality supply lines possible, which appears to be untrue if these allegations are proven.
Fluidmaster supply lines can easily be identified by the Fluidmaster USA that is stamped into the crimp sleeve at the end of the supply line. If you have Fluidmaster No-Burst braided stainless steel supply lines installed in your house, you may be eligible to participate in a lawsuit against the manufacturer. These defects could have disastrous consequences for a homeowner, including serious flooding and property damage.
