On Wednesday, a Ninth Circuit appellate court upheld a $20 million settlement in a privacy lawsuit against Facebook. The settlement was in response to claims that the social media site used the names and likenesses of minors in their ads without receiving proper consent. In addition to the monetary settlement, Facebook will be required to change its policies for using members’ pictures in advertisements. The unclaimed awards from this settlement are set to be directed to organizations that focus on online privacy, the safe use of social media, and protecting minors.
