Colopast Vaginal Mesh Lawsuits Consolidated
Last Updated on June 27, 2017
Vaginal mesh lawsuits continue to mount as a new multidistrict litigation has been established for lawsuits filed against Colopast Corporation. On Aug. 6, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) created a new federal multidistrict litigation for pelvic mesh devices made by Coloplast Corp., making this the sixth active MDL for vaginal mesh products. The combined litigation will be located in the Southern District of West Virginia, the location of four other MDLs against American Medical Systems, Boston Scientific, Ethicon, and C.R. Bard. All of these companies are creators of vaginal mesh products used to treat organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.
The decision to consolidate the cases to the Southern District of West Virginia comes as a result of 9 pending lawsuits already filed against Colopast Corp.
Judge Joseph R. Goodwin, who is currently overseeing the multi district litigation for the other vaginal mesh lawsuits, has been appointed to manage the newest as well. The decision to consolidate the cases to the Southern District of West Virginia comes as a result of 9 pending lawsuits already filed against Colopast Corp. in that district. In total, Colopast Corp. is reportedly facing 24 lawsuits over their vaginal mesh products.
Transvaginal mesh lawsuits started to mount after the FDA’s July 2011 warning about the possible side effects of transvaginal mesh. The FDA issued the warning after receiving thousands of complaints from women experiencing pelvic pain, erosion, and painful sexual intercourse. While these symptoms were once considered rare, the FDA has come to question the validity of the idea that traditional repair of organ prolapse was less effective than repairing organ prolapsed with mesh. Women filing suit have claimed that manufacturers failed to warn them of the severity of the risks involved with using mesh.
The complications of vaginal mesh products can be extremely unpleasant and even dangerous. Some of its side effects are pelvic pain, mesh erosion, infection, painful sexual intercourse, and bleeding. To have these issues repaired, some women had to go through several revision surgeries and prolonged hospitalization. If you have experienced any issues with a transvaginal mesh, you may be able to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer for any medical bills or pain and suffering you have incurred.
