Microsoft-Forced Windows 10 Upgrade Sparks Lawsuits
If you’re using Windows, you’ve probably come face to face with a prompt offering a free upgrade to Windows 10 – if it didn’t just install itself without your consent. Well, now Microsoft is facing a proposed class action claiming that it violated multiple federal laws (the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act, the Clayton Antitrust Act and the Junk Fax Prevention Act, among others) by not giving its users the chance to reject the offer. The complaint goes on to claim that Microsoft knew that a forced upgrade would damage some computers, but chose to proceed with it anyway. For more information about the lawsuit, Nat Levy wrote a great article over at GeekWire that is definitely worth checking out.
Nvidia Settles Lawsuit Over GTX 970 RAM
Nvidia has agreed to settle a class action claiming that its GTX 970 graphics card offered 4GB of high-speed RAM when, in reality, 0.5GB of the advertised 4GB ran 80 percent slower. According to the lawsuit, Nividia falsely advertised its product and, in turn, gamers suffered performance issues when they tried to use the GTX 970 to its full potential. Under the settlement, those who bought the GTX 970 before the problems came to light will be able to claim $30 (roughly 8.6 percent of the purchase price) as compensation for the lack of data speed. Fiat Chrysler Accused of Inflating Sales Numbers
Fiat Chrysler has had some information come to light that has investors less than pleased. According to a class action filed by its shareholders, Fiat Chrysler posted thousands of sales that turned out to be fake. Allegedly, Fiat would submit the fake sales and take them out of the system the next day, allowing it to show high sales margins for 75 months in a row without having to process the factory warranties for the vehicles. Check out Jinger Jarrett’s Inquisitr article for more on the case.
