Med-Trans Corporation Hit with Suit Over 'Outrageous' Transport Prices
Last Updated on May 8, 2018
Stout et al. v. Med-Trans Corporation et al.
Filed: May 4, 2017 ◆§ 1:17-cv-00115-MW-GRJ
A proposed class action lawsuit alleges Med-Trans and Air Medical Group charge unlawfully outrageous prices for emergency air medical transportation.
A proposed class action lawsuit rooted in breach of contract and covenant of good faith allegations claims the below defendants are behind a scheme that charges “outrageous prices” to patients transported via helicopter to hospitals throughout Florida:
- Med-Trans Corporation
- Med-Trans Corp. LLC
- Med-Trans, A North Dakota Corporation
- Air Medical Group Holdings
- Air Medical Group Holdings, LLC
The plaintiffs argue the defendants, rather than charge patients a “uniform, customary, and reasonable rate,” instead charge outrageous prices that “bear no reasonable relationship to the services rendered” or what is usually charged for emergency air transport. The case claims specifically that the defendants charge customers 300 percent higher than what other emergency helicopter companies charge for the same service. According to the case, the defendants do not disclose or negotiate their prices, and charge patients “without any regard to any health insurance payor, managed care payor, or governmental payor.”
