International Recovery Associates, Inc. has been named as the defendant in a lawsuit filed in New York federal court that claims the debt collector failed to send a required written notice to consumers containing information about their rights. According to the lawsuit, International Recovery mailed a debt collection letter to the plaintiff, but failed to send an additional written notice within five days of the initial communication that included the amount of the alleged debt, the name of the creditor, and a statement informing the plaintiff of his right to dispute the purported debt. As a result, the suit argues, the plaintiff remained uninformed of his rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and did not have the information he needed to determine his response to the collection letter.
