A lawsuit has been filed out of New York against American City Business Journals, Inc., claiming New York Business Journal's website equal access for the deaf.
New York
A discrimination lawsuit has been filed out of New York against American City Business Journals, Inc., claiming New York Business Journal’s website denies the deaf and hard-of-hearing equal access to its videos by failing to provide closed captions. The plaintiff claims he attempted to watch videos on bizjournals.com, but was unable to comprehend and enjoy the videos because they did not include captions. According to the complaint, “[t]he lack of closed captioning means that deaf and hard of hearing people are excluded from the rapidly expanding internet media industry and from independently accessing videos posted on Bizjournals.com.” The suit argues that the defendant violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and New York state law by failing to provide deaf people equal access to its website’s goods and services.
