A former police officer has sued the city of Jacksonville, FL over claims he and other officers over 40 were 'bumped' from their jobs due to their age.
A former police officer has sued Jacksonville, Florida over alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and age discrimination.
The case notes the plaintiff, 55, worked as a police officer for Jacksonville from 1988 through October 2012. During his employment, the plaintiff reportedly sustained a workplace injury in 2010 when his right and left rotator cuffs and left pectoral muscle were injured while completed a mandatory physical agility test. After sustaining these injuries, the plaintiff took a brief leave of absence. Upon his return, he requested and was granted “permanent light duty” status to accommodate his injuries. Shortly thereafter, the plaintiff claims he and giver other officers over 40 years old were “bumped” from their employment and replaced with younger, non-disabled officers with “significantly less experience.”
