The class action settlement covers anyone in the United States who, at any time since October 20, 2021, watched videos on AloMoves.com and had their video viewing data disclosed to Facebook through a web-tracking tool known as the Meta pixel.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit an Alo Moves claim form online or by mail by November 18, 2024.
Eligible class members who file a valid claim by the deadline may receive a voucher redeemable for three months of unlimited access to all services provided on AloMoves.com. The Alo Moves settlement was preliminarily approved by the court on July 18, 2024. The parties now await a December 19 hearing, at which the court will decide whether to grant final approval to the terms of the deal.
According to the settlement agreement, if the deal is approved and after any appeals are resolved, vouchers will be emailed to eligible class members within 21 days of the date it goes into effect.
The class action lawsuit against Alo Moves alleged that the platform intentionally disclosed subscribers’ personally identifying information via the Meta pixel without obtaining user permission, in violation of the federal Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA). Per the case, the tracker captured consumers’ Facebook IDs—a unique string of numbers linked to an individual’s social media account—alongside the title and URL of any videos they watched while on AloMoves.com.
The settlement agreement relays that, as part of the deal, Alo Moves has agreed to suspend its use of the Meta pixel on webpages that contain video classes for at least three years, or until the VPPA is amended, repealed or invalidated.
