The $8,000,000 deal covers anyone who received notice from MU Health Care that their personal information may have been compromised as a result of the data security incident, which occurred between May 4 and 6, 2020.
Only class members who submit a valid claim form online or by mail by the January 14, 2025 deadline will be eligible to receive an MU Health Care settlement payout.

As part of the deal with MU Health Care, class members may file a claim for up to $150 per person for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred after May 6, 2020 that are reasonably linked to the data breach, the settlement agreement says. This payment may also include reimbursement for up to three hours of lost time spent dealing with consequences of the incident, at a rate of $25 per hour, the agreement relays.
Alternatively, class members can choose to forego reimbursement benefits in favor of a cash payment of $60, the document shares.
According to the settlement agreement, all payments may decrease on a pro rata basis.
In addition to providing cash benefits to eligible consumers, MU Health Care has agreed to implement a two-factor authentication procedure in its email system for at least five years with appropriate training, the document states.
The MU Health Care class action settlement was preliminarily approved by the Missouri court on October 7, 2024. It is now up to the court to determine whether it will grant final approval to the terms of the deal at a hearing scheduled for February 3, 2025.
The official website adds that if the deal is ultimately approved, and after any appeals are resolved, checks will be issued to eligible class members within 21 days of the date the settlement goes into effect.
