United of Omaha Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the United of Omaha data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
On April 23, 2024, United of Omaha Life Insurance Company identified suspicious activity within an employee email account, leading to the discovery of unauthorized access by a third party. The United of Omaha breach was traced to a phishing campaign specifically targeting the company's employees. An investigation revealed that the email account was compromised between April 21 and April 23, 2024.
Following a detailed analysis, the company concluded on June 28, 2024 that the unauthorized party might have viewed emails and attachments concerning United of Omaha's employer group insurance products.
Potentially accessed data include personal details such as full names, addresses, birth dates, driver’s license numbers, health insurance policy numbers, Social Security numbers, employment information, and limited health information. The breach was confined to the group's insurance business, which offers insurance products to various employers.
Recipients of the letters include individuals whose employers had a group insurance policy through United of Omaha or inquired about one. This includes spouses and dependents of those covered under such a policy.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force United of Omaha to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
