Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Turning Point of Central California data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Turning Point of Central California, Inc. reported a data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on August 9, 2024.
A sample notice submitted to the California Attorney General’s Office (seen below) indicates that in May 2024, the nonprofit discovered suspicious activity on its system and found that an unauthorized user had gained access. The company disconnected its systems, launched an investigation, and enlisted independent computer forensic experts. According to the sample notice, the names, Social Security numbers and addresses of former and current employees may have been accessed in the Turning Point of Central California data breach. A notice posted on the nonprofit's website indicates that clients' personal information may have also been exposed.
It’s worth noting that companies covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) are required to report data breaches involving protected health information to the HHS secretary.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Turning Point of Central California to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
