Reports to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services indicate that 650,000 people associated with TTUHSC’s Lubbock location and 815,000 people associated with the school’s El Paso campus were impacted by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center data breach, which last September exposed consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth and insurance and medical information, among other data.
Several reputable cybersecurity publications, including Bleeping Computer, Security Week and InfoSecurity Magazine, reported that ransomware group Interlock took responsibility for the TTUHSC Lubbock and El Paso campus data breaches, claiming to have pilfered approximately 2.6TB of sensitive data, totaling 2.1 million files. The group reportedly published a portion of the stolen data online.
