TaxPlus Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the TaxPlus data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
TaxPlus, which provides tax preparation and accounting services in Los Angeles and San Diego, recently disclosed a data breach in which hackers successfully infiltrated the company's tax preparation software. According to TaxPlus' security notification (seen below), the attackers managed to exploit stolen credentials to access and create duplicates of client data spanning from August 24 to August 26, 2023. The company says the computers used to access the compromised employee account are located internationally.
The compromised information encompasses data entered into the software before August 26, 2023, as well as "pro forma" information from previous years. This data may include Social Security numbers, birth dates, and addresses of all affected individuals, including dependents. Additionally, the breach potentially exposed other sensitive data such as bank account and financial institution account numbers, health insurance policy details, and various tax identification numbers.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force TaxPlus to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
