SouthCoast Health Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the SouthCoast Health data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
SouthCoast Medical Group, LLC, doing business as SouthCoast Health, along with Privia Medical Group of Georgia, LLC, are notifying individuals about an incident potentially affecting the privacy of specific information.
On June 18, 2023, SouthCoast Health identified unauthorized activity within its network. In response, the organization implemented measures to secure its systems and engaged third-party forensic specialists to investigate the incident’s scope and impact. The investigation revealed that, between June 15 and June 18, 2023, an unauthorized actor accessed and potentially copied certain files stored on SouthCoast Health’s network.
A recently completed review discovered that files compromised in the SouthCoast Health data breach contained various types of personal information, including names; Social Security numbers; passport numbers; driver’s license numbers; vehicle license plate numbers; state, military, student and taxpayer identification numbers; dates of birth; copies of birth certificates and marriage certificates; mother’s maiden names; medical and health insurance information; email/usernames and passwords or security questions and answers; financial account information; payment card information; and electronic/digital signatures.
The specific types of information accessed varied for each individual. Notably, SouthCoast Health’s electronic medical record systems were not impacted by the event. It is also important to note that the breach was confined to SouthCoast Health’s network, leaving Privia’s network unaffected.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force SouthCoast Health to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
