Ruffolo, Hooper & Associates Security Incident: What Happened?
Ruffolo, Hooper & Associates, MD, PA, a physician-owned medical practice in Florida that offers anatomic and clinical pathology services, is notifying individuals about a data incident at Nationwide Recovery Services (NRS), a third-party vendor they use.
On February 7, 2025, Ruffolo, Hooper & Associates (RHA) learned that suspicious activity on Nationwide Recovery Services' network may have affected information related to people affiliated with its practice. Nationwide Recovery Services discovered that unauthorized access to its network took place from July 5 to July 11, 2024, which led to the theft of certain data maintained by the debt collection agency.
Upon learning about the incident's potential impact on Ruffolo, Hooper & Associates, the practice sought further details to identify affected individuals and notify them. On April 3, 2025, Nationwide Recovery Services said it wouldn't provide individual notifications, prompting Ruffolo, Hooper & Associates to arrange for this notice itself.
Data potentially exposed in the NRS data breach as it affects Ruffolo, Hooper & Associates includes names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, gender, facility names, service dates, insurance carrier names, and policy numbers.
Nationwide Recovery Services serves various organizations, including medical billing company Physicians Independent Management Services (PIMS). According to a notice on RHA's website, the Nationwide Recovery Services data breach specifically impacted information related to services provided to PIMS for Ruffolo, Hooper & Associates.
This incident did not affect Ruffolo, Hooper & Associates systems.
