Update – River Region Cardiology Data Breach Notice Reveals Impacted Info
River Region Cardiology has issued a data breach notice in which the Alabama facility confirmed that patient names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, height, weight and sex were among the sensitive data exposed in the cyberattack.
According to the River Region Cardiology data breach notice, the facility detected unauthorized access to its system on September 16, 2024, stemming from “a cyber-attack against a remote connection utilized by a vendor.” Upon discovery, River Region Cardiology took the vendor offline to cut off the unauthorized access, the notice states.
In the notice, River Region Cardiology urges patients to monitor their personal accounts and medical records for unusual activity, be cautious of unsolicited emails or phone calls asking for personal information, and contact their healthcare provider should they notice anything unusual with their medical records.
The River Region Cardiology data breach was reported to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) on December 11, 2024.
The BianLian cyber threat group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the River Region Cardiology data breach.
