Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Politzer and Durocher, PLC, which does business as Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee (OPMT), has reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services a data breach affecting 29,000 patients.
According to a data breach notice on OPMT’s website, the eyecare clinic chain discovered on March 25, 2024 that hackers had accessed its computer network and stole files containing “a very limited amount of healthcare information” and “other identifying information.”
However, the ransomware group that has claimed responsibility for the Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee data breach, BianLian, says it stole 1.5 terabytes of “finance data, human resources data, patients’ personally identifiable info and personal health info, biometric data, contracts, confidential agreements, and SQL databases,” Comparitech.com reports.
In its online notice, OPMT says it will notify individuals directly once it has identified those who were affected.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
