mSpy Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the mSpy data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Commercial spyware maker mSpy has reportedly suffered a data breach in which hackers stole millions of support tickets that dated back as far as 2014 and contained customers’ personal information, exchanges with support and attachments often containing personal documents.
Have I Been Pwned, a data leak tracking website, tweeted that the mSpy data breach exposed nearly 320 GB of information including 2.4 million email addresses, along with IP addresses, names, photos of credit cards and even nude selfies. The credit card photos look to be related to refund requests, Computer Security Online reports, noting that the nude images “are more difficult to explain.”
mSpy is a phone surveillance app that can be used to monitor children or employees, but the technology is commonly referred to as “stalkerware” as it can also be used to track romantic partners without their consent.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force mSpy to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
