MoneyGram Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the MoneyGram data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from MoneyGram customers who may have been impacted.
MoneyGram Payment Systems, Inc. recently disclosed a cybersecurity breach in which an unauthorized party accessed consumer personal information from its systems. The breach occurred between September 20 and 22, 2024 and reportedly took the money transfer giant's website offline for nearly a week.
According to an online data breach notice dated October 7, the compromised data includes consumer names, contact details like phone numbers and email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, copies of government-issued IDs, other identification documents like utility bills, bank account numbers, MoneyGram Plus Rewards numbers, transaction details, and, for a few individuals, criminal investigation information. The types of breached information varied for each affected person.
BleepingComputer.com reported that although the specifics of the MoneyGram data breach have not been confirmed, the loss of systems connectivity and the length of the outage indicate that the incident may have been a ransomware attack.
If you believe your information may have been exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force MoneyGram to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
