Linn-Benton Community College Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the data breach impacting Linn-Benton Community College.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were affected.
Linn-Benton Community College, which has five locations in Linn and Benton Counties in Oregon, is notifying current and former employees of a significant data breach resulting from a security incident at Carruth Compliance Consulting, which provides administrative services for 403(b) and 457(b) retirement plans. The unauthorized access occurred around December 21, 2024, and Carruth notified Linn-Benton Community College of the incident on January 13, 2025.
According to a data breach notice on Linn-Benton Community College's website, the Carruth Compliance Consulting data breach potentially affects all employees who have been employed by the college since 2008, regardless of whether Carruth was actively managing their retirement plan.
The compromised data may include sensitive information such as names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, email and street addresses, dates of hire, and contribution details for retirement savings accounts. Additionally, other data shared directly with Carruth, such as financial account information, beneficiary details, power of attorney information, driver's license numbers, W-2 information, medical billing details, and tax filings, might also have been exposed.
Linn-Benton Community College reported that over 15,000 individuals may have been impacted by the Carruth Compliance Consulting data breach. Importantly, the college noted on its website that the incident occurred on Carruth's network only and that there are no indications that Linn-Benton's systems or network were affected.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Linn-Benton Community College to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
