Harrisburg Medical Center Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Harrisburg Medical Center data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Harrisburg Medical Center (HMC) has completed its investigation into a data incident that occurred between December 19, 2022 and December 23, 2022. The investigation revealed that an unknown third party gained access to certain documents containing personal information during this time.
Initially, HMC notified a group of individuals whose personal information was believed to be involved in the incident on February 21, 2023. However, after conducting a comprehensive review of the documents, HMC found that additional individuals' personal information was present.
On December 12, 2023, HMC sent notification letters to the affected individuals for whom it had valid mailing addresses. The information contained in the exposed documents varied by individual and may include their name, Social Security number, date of birth, and clinical information such as diagnosis/conditions, lab results and prescription information. For a limited number of individuals, the compromised documents may have also included health insurance information, driver's license/state ID numbers, digital/electronic signatures and financial account numbers.
Harrisburg Medical Center and its clinics are part of the Southern Illinois Healthcare network.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Harrisburg Medical Center to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
