Gateway Community Services Security Incident: What Happened?
Jacksonville, Florida-based Gateway Community Services, Inc. has informed certain current and former patients of a security incident that may have compromised their personal information. This incident occurred on April 11, 2025, when an unauthorized party gained access to the company's network. Upon detection, the network was secured, and a specialized forensic team was engaged to investigate the data breach.
The investigation revealed that the unauthorized party may have accessed certain data, which may include names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver's license or state identification numbers, medical information, and health insurance details. However, the specific information affected varies by individual.
Gateway Community Services, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation organization that offers detoxification, residential, and outpatient treatment programs, among other services, completed a data review on May 16, 2025 and is notifying those impacted. A total of 34,498 people are reportedly affected by the breach.
The Gateway Community Services data breach was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on May 29, 2025.
