Duke Energy Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Duke Energy data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Duke Energy is alerting customers to a May 2024 data breach in which a third party may have stolen customer information from its public website. The company believes the bad actors could have utilized externally obtained personal information to gain access to additional details about customer accounts.
While passwords for both residential and business accounts were not compromised, other sensitive information may have been exposed in the Duke Energy data breach. This includes utility account numbers, names, email addresses, mailing addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, and the last four digits of Social Security numbers for residential customers, as well as the last four digits of federal tax IDs for businesses.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Duke Energy to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
