David’s Bridal Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the David’s Bridal data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Earlier this year, David’s Bridal detected unusual activity on its network systems, leading to an investigation. The probe revealed that unauthorized access occurred around January 20, 2024, resulting in the potential copying of sensitive information. The company has since completed a review to identify affected files and the individuals involved, who reportedly include both employees and customers.
David's Bridal is now informing those affected via mail, confirming their personal information was part of the compromised data.
According to a notice submitted to the Maine Attorney General's Office, the David's Bridal data breach exposed names and Social Security numbers but "did not include consumer payment card information." A report on the Texas Attorney General's website notes, however, that addresses, driver's license numbers, medical information and health insurance information may have also been exposed.
Comparitech.com writes that two ransomware groups—LockBit and Werewolves—claimed responsibility for separately hacking David's Bridal's network in January and February 2024, respectively. According to the report, "it's possible both groups exploited the same vulnerability to access the data," though the wedding dress retailer has not confirmed any claims made by the ransomware organizations.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force David’s Bridal to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
