Colonial Behavioral Health Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Colonial Behavioral Health data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
On October 4, 2024, Colonial Behavioral Health identified issues with its computer systems, revealing a ransomware attack. The Williamsburg, Virginia-based organization took action to halt the ransomware and enlisted external cybersecurity experts for assistance and investigation. An investigation revealed that the incident began around May 17, 2024, when an unauthorized user logged into Colonial Behavioral Health's systems undetected.
Certain sensitive information might have been accessed or obtained before the ransomware encryption on October 4. Specifically, the information might have encompassed patient files and records within the affected Colonial Behavioral Health systems, including details such as names, Social Security numbers, addresses, ZIP codes, driver's license numbers, dates of birth, diagnosis/conditions, lab results, medications, treatment details, and insurance or claims information. Some data may also pertain to guarantors who settled healthcare service bills for others. The type of accessed data varied among individuals.
According to a report provided to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Colonial Behavioral Health data breach has impacted 29,930 customers.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Colonial Behavioral Health to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
