Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Charleston Area Medical Center data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) has disclosed a recent data breach that may have compromised the personal information of some individuals, including patients. On October 2, 2024, Charleston Area Medical Center detected that a few email accounts had been targeted in a phishing attack. In response, the medical center, collaborating with a forensic security firm, investigated and ended unauthorized access to its email systems. The investigation revealed that a single user's mailbox was accessed by an unauthorized party between October 2 and October 3, 2024. Other company systems and data were not affected.
The information potentially exposed in the data breach includes personal details such as names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, driver's licenses, health data, and health insurance information. Charleston Area Medical Center, located in West Virginia, is sending letters to those affected by the breach and for whom the company has mailing addresses.
According to a report submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Charleston Area Medical Center data breach has impacted 67,413 individuals.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Charleston Area Medical Center to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
