Carespring Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Carespring data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Carespring Health Care Management LLC, which provides skilled nursing, memory care, assisted living and other senior care in Ohio and Kentucky, announced a significant data security breach within its network. In response, the company initiated an investigation, collaborating with cybersecurity experts to assess the incident’s scope and impact.
The investigation revealed that between October 12 and October 30, 2023, an unauthorized individual may have accessed and acquired sensitive information, according to Carespring's example data breach notice. The type of information potentially compromised in the Carespring data breach includes names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, medical and health insurance details, financial information, and more. The exact nature of the data accessed varies by individual.
Carespring's online notice of the breach cautions both patients and employees to be "vigilant in reviewing financial account statements...for any fraudulent activity." On August 15, 2024, Carespring began notifying those affected at their last known address. A report submitted to the Maine Attorney General's Office states that 76,719 people are impacted by the data breach.
While Carespring did not confirm the type of attack, SecurityWeek.com reports that the provider’s name has been listed on the “leak sites of several ransomware groups.”
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Carespring to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
