Benefits Management Group Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Benefits Management Group data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
On January 24, 2024, Benefits Management Group, Inc. (BMGI), which provides health and retirement benefits administration, financial accounting and regulatory compliance services, reported a data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
According to a data breach notice posted online, the company was informed of suspicious activity in its computer systems toward the end of November 2024 and launched an investigation with the help of external cybersecurity experts. The probe revealed unauthorized access on November 8, when a hacker likely copied files from Benefits Management Group's systems.
A review to assess whether the compromised files included sensitive personal data and who may be impacted is ongoing. The company states, however, that information copied in the Benefits Management Group Data breach could include names, addresses, dates of birth and Social Security numbers.
It's also worth noting that data breaches involving the protected health information of 500 or more individuals are required to be reported to the HHS secretary.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Benefits Management Group to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
