American Vision Partners Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the American Vision Partners and Medical Management Resource Group data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Medical Management Resource Group (MMRG), which does business as American Vision Partners and provides administrative support to ophthalmology practices, has announced a data breach affecting more than 2.3 million patients.
On November 14, 2023, American Vision Partners discovered unauthorized activity on parts of its network and enlisted third-party cybersecurity firms to investigate the data breach. By December 6, 2023, American Vision Partners had confirmed that the personal information of patients linked to the affected practices had been accessed by the unauthorized party during the incident. The compromised data varies by individual and may include full names, contact details, birth dates, medical information including prescriptions, and, in some cases, Social Security numbers and insurance information. Affected patients are now being notified by the company.
According to its website, American Vision Partners serves communities throughout Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, California and Texas and partners with the following practices: Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center; Southwestern Eye Center; Retinal Consultants of Arizona; M&M Eye Institute; Abrams Eye Institute; Southwest Eye Institute; Aiello Eye Institute; Moretsky Cassidy Vision Correction; Wellish Vision Institute; Vantage Eye Center; Laser Eye Center of Lubbock; and West Texas Eye Associates.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force American Vision Partners/MMRG to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
