American Addiction Centers Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the American Addiction Centers data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
American Addiction Centers, a Tennessee-based addiction rehabilitation company, recently disclosed a data breach affecting 422,424 current and former patients and employees. The breach was detected on September 26, 2024, when American Addiction Centers discovered unauthorized network access and data exfiltration that had occurred between September 23 and 26, 2024.
The breach impacted American Addiction Centers and its affiliated treatment centers across eight states, including AdCare, the Greenhouse, Desert Hope Center, Oxford Treatment Center, Recovery First, Sunrise House, River Oaks Treatment Center, and Laguna Treatment Hospital.
For patients, compromised information included names, Social Security numbers, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, medical record numbers, and health insurance information, though financial and treatment records were not affected.
For employees, the information exposed in the American Addiction Centers data breach included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, government identifiers such as driver's license or passport numbers, health insurance and retirement account information, and medical information that may have been provided to the company in association with leave requests or other purposes.
On December 23, 2024, American Addiction Centers filed a notice with the Maine Attorney General and began notifying affected individuals.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force American Addiction Centers to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
