Alps Alpine Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Alps Alpine data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Japanese electronics manufacturer Alps Alpine Co., Ltd. reported on September 12, 2023 that it was the victim of a ransomware attack detected on September 10.
In a notice posted to its website on September 14, the company revealed that personal information belonging to employees of its North American subsidiary, Alps Alpine North America, had been leaked. The notice indicated that while the cause was still under investigation, the company believed the leaked data was "highly likely related" to the ransomware incident.
On November 28, Alps Alpine North America reported to the Texas Attorney General that over 4,000 individuals were affected by the September breach and that their names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and government-issued ID numbers were exposed.
Alps Alpine also posted a notice on its website in July 2023 regarding a data breach during which about 16,000 employees had their names and email addresses leaked, but it is unclear whether the two incidents are related.
Separately, cybersecurity news outlet RedPacket Security reported via an automated post that data belonging to Alps Alpine had been posted on the BlackByte ransomware blog page in September 2023 and was available for download.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Alps Alpine to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
