As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Akumin Data Breach Update – Notification Process Almost Complete
Akumin data breach notices continue to be sent to individuals potentially impacted by the cyberattack, the company said on its website.
According to the Akumin data breach notice found here, the Akumin cyberattack was first disclosed to customers and patients of the medical imaging provider in October 2023, and written notices have continually been sent to affected individuals via U.S. mail since December of that year.
The direct notification process for the Akumin data breach is expected to be completed by the end of December 2024, the site states.
Per the notice, the information compromised in the Akumin ransomware event collectively included names, home addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, Medicare or Medicaid IDs, financial account details, payment card information, biometric information, medical histories, health insurance details, and more.

On October 11, 2023, Akumin discovered an unauthorized actor had accessed its systems and copied files without permission as part of a ransomware attack. Patient information such as names, contact details, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license and/or state ID numbers, health insurance policy numbers, and medical records including diagnoses and treatment information may have been exposed in the Akumin data breach. Radiology images were also among the Akumin data potentially compromised.
Akumin, which provides outpatient radiology and oncology services, first notified patients of the breach via its website on October 19, 2023, according to the company's online notice of the data breach.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Akumin to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
