GM SUV and Truck Recall Expanded

General Motors has expanded a previous recall of certain 2011 trucks and SUVs to correct an issue which could cause the cars’ rear axles to lock. The GM recall, which was first issued in December 2010, now covers more than 26,700 Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC trucks and SUVs. Because the problem with the rear axle cross pins increases the driver’s risk of a crash, individuals who were injured in a car accident involving one of the recalled GM models may have legal recourse.

The GM recall, which was originally issued in December 2010 and covered more than 1200 cars, now affects 26,751 vehicles. The following are among the 2011 models affected by the GM recall concerning the rear axle problem:

• Chevrolet Avalanche 1500, Chevrolet Colorado, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Chevrolet Suburban 1500, Chevrolet Tahoe
• GMC Canyon, GMC Sierra 1500, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL 1500

GM Recall: Rear Axle Problem

The GM SUV and truck recall was expanded due to a rear axle problem. Reportedly, the rear axle cross pins, which hold the axle in place, weren’t properly heat-treated and lack durability. As a result, they could fracture and become displaced within the rear axle. This could create an interference and cause the rear axle to lock. The driver then may lose directional control of the vehicle, increasing their risk of an auto accident.
