It is believed that both Track 1 and Track data, which includes the cardholder’s name, account number, encrypted PIN among other information, was stolen. Potentially, persons who gain access to this data could use the information to make online transactions and make copies of the credit card.
What Cards Are Affected by the Global Payments Breach?
Global Payments is one of the world’s largest electronic transaction processing companies. It has been reported that the Global Payments breach could have an effect on cards issued to consumers directly from the credit card companies, as well as any cards provided by a bank or other financial institution carrying a logo for Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express. The credit card payment processor reportedly admitted that it was working in connection with the Secret Service to determine the scope of the Global Payments security breach and the parties responsible for stealing the information.
